This summer I'm in New York City at Teachers College, Columbia University doing an intensive graduate program called the Summer Principals Academy (SPA). The first 3 weeks were grueling! Decision making models, group process, adult development theories, convening cases, E.Q. (Emotional Intelligence) competencies and journals full of reflections on reflections! The last three weeks have been more relaxed with an emphasis on conflict resolution skills and clinical supervision for adult development role plays, readings, and journals. With one week left, when it's all said and done, I will have written 50 separate papers (150 pages), read 6 books & 20 articles in 6 weeks. It's a good thing that the first class of the day Monday through Friday is Self-Awareness Training (SAT), during which we meditate for 3o minutes and journal our experience.
Saved by the "Om!"
My terribly overpriced, accommodations are modestly furnished in Columbia periwinkle blue and white, but has a soft bed and a fantastic view of the Hudson River to the north west and the Harlem River to the north east. Who needs a TV or fabulous decor when one has too much to do and a fantastic view?
